The basis for the formation of Rainforest Yoga was the closure of a long-established studio, The Yoga Den, in January 2003. A group of dedicated students and teachers were interested in having a community-based yoga studio continue in Juneau. The group formed a nonprofit organization and 501(c) nonprofit status was granted in July 2004.

A nine-person board of directors provides organizational guidance. Rainforest Yoga's annual membership meeting is held in March. The annual meeting provides the members of Rainforest Yoga an opportunity to meet with the board, review past accomplishments, and provide input about future planning. Of course, the members of the board welcome input at any time!
